The men’s section of this year’s Inter-Bauxite Table Tennis Competition, which changed from a one-day rally to a home and away league format two years ago, will begin tomorrow, and three teams will take part, namely, defending champions Windalco, Alpart and St Ann Bauxite.
Alpart are down to host St Ann Bauxite in the opening match tomorrow at the Alpart Sports Club at Nain, St Elizabeth, starting at 6:30 p.m. and Windalco will bow into action next week. Matches are scheduled for Thursday of each week, with the finals at the end of the rounds, set for Saturday, 13 September at St Ann Bauxite.
The top team at the end of the preliminary rounds will qualify for the final, while the second and third placed teams will play-off against each other on the day of the finals, with the winner advancing to the final. Five matches – four singles and one doubles – will comprise each team match.
On the day of the finals, women’s team events, men’s and women’s individual singles, as well as events for employees’ children in a number of age-group categories, will also be contested.
Windalco are also defending women’s team champions; and George Hyman and Andrea Wadsworth of Windalco are defending singles champions.
Windalco will be represented by Hyman, former singles champion Mark Gregory, Wayne Aird, Marlon Ranger and Justin Allen.
The St Ann Bauxite team will be comprised of former singles champion Wavel Williams, Richard Thomas, Andrew Lawrence, Courtney Dunkley, Oral Brown and Rayon Grizzle.
And Alaprt’s team will be made up of Dervon Parchment, Floyd Payne, Oliver Miller, Ernest Allen (Justin’s brother), Dain Clarke and a new top player, Robert Gabay, formerly of another Kingston-based team.
