Immaculate Head Girl succumbed to gunshot injuries

Eighteen year-old Pia Phillips, the Head Girl for Immaculate Conception High School who was accidentally shot by her father while being held-up by gunmen at their home at Riverside Drive, Havendale, Kingston 19, succumbed to her injuries in hospital this morning.

The CCN’s Metro Officer had earlier reported that about 7:30 p.m., yesterday, Pia and other family members arrived home and were about to enter the house when a red car pulled up.

Two men armed with guns exited the car, walked towards the house and demanded that they come to them. The victims ran and screamed and her father who is a licensed firearm holder pulled his firearm and rushed to his family’s rescue.

He reportedly slipped and fell and the gun went off, hitting his daughter. The holdup men then drove away. She was taken to hospital where she was admitted in serious condition.

Pia was returning from her 18th birthday celebration yesterday when the tragic incident occurred.

The Constant Spring Police is investigating.

  1. And they are saying that hanging thieves and murderers is barbaric!!!!. They need to be hanged so that, hardworking citizens of Jamaica can LIVE, and live longer.

An 18 yr old is the latest victim of OUR inefficiency in addressing the crime problem!!!! so much potential…lost because of thieves who would otherwise kill, rape and rob us.

I think it is time that thieves and murderers actually FEAR going to jail- it is because they dont fear going to jail or being caught for that matter why they kill so often.

YES IM UPSET!!! WHYY????…because that could have been ME!!! OR YOU!!! and until POLITICIANS feel it at their doorstep they will not ( seeminly) consider implementing hanging.RIP, Pia Phillips.

I dont know her but maybe her death and so much more that has occured- will bring about a change…a justice system that actually serves ……JUSTICE!!!!!!!

  2. all i can say is that PIA was loved and this CRIME needs to stop. It is sad to know that you can’t go home or walk on the streets at early hours and not worry. PIA was honoured by the school and her family mourned, but they were also very strong. Your GOOD attitude will live with us forever PIA.

  3. Pia was a wonderful girl who didn’t deserve what came to her. I know that GOD put her on the earth for 18 years. Her SHORT legacy will live on forever. THE CRIME AND VIOLENCE NEEDS TO STOP NOW!!!!!!!!

  4. I am sorry for the accidental death of this beautiful young lady, and I hope and pray that her father is not taking it hard and understand that it was just an accident. I hope that those criminal element that cause this will sooner or later find themselves in trouble and put to justice.

  5. To the entire ICHS family:
We are ALL devastated by this tragedy. As an old girl and former teacher, Pia was an angel lent to us breifly by God. RIP little girl….we loved you, but Jesus loved you more.

    Family…stay strong….

  6. My heart goes out to the family and the School community. Another bright light has been put out, i say START HANGING THEM HIGH!!!! This has to stop.

  7. My condolences to the family. I did not know Pia but I am a pass I.C.H.S. student,,, There are too many idle, lazy people an illegal guns on our beautiful Island. Maybe we should generate more jobs to keep these people busy instead of waiting to hold up those of us who do work….Crime & Violence Needs To STOP.

  8. Jamaica has lost an angel. It has lost a future leader that would have made serious contributions. God Why? I know your plans are perfect but why Pia so early? I know you are in the arms of God.Pia, may your soul rest in peace.

  9. Its so sad that Pia is gone. She’ll always be in the heart of Immaculate students. Jamaica needs a change…..the govt. is not doing anything about it, all they are doing is saying we need a change and not doing a thing about it! If this continues, Jamaica will be worse and the future, which are in the hands of the children will be no more. The gunmen, rapist, murderers are controlling Jamaica more that the politicians are!! They do whatever they want, whenever they want, to whom ever they want!!! We need to put an end to this none-sence!

  10. Rest in Peace , Pia.
Jamaica and Immaculate has lost a great girl.
    You will be greatly missed

  15. I am an Immaculate old girl, and i just want to express my condolences to Pia’s family (home, school, and church) and friends during this very difficult period.

God, give her family, especially her father, the strength that they need during this time.

    RIP Pia Phillips

  16. My condolances to pia’s family …….And to the jamaican government WE MUST RESUME HANGING,OR BETER YET INTRODUCE LETHAL INJECTION OR BRING BACK THE GILOTENE!!!!!!!!!!!!! but something must be done to discourage these spineless men from commiting these heinous crimes.

  17. I did not know her, but i am a mother of two. Jamaicans must realize that there is a cult happening right here in our country. How can human right groups say we should not resume hanging.. What do thy know? The grief of the her parents is just unimaginable.

My heart goes out to her family and especially her father, don’t be hard on yourself you were just doing your duty as a father.. trying to protect your family. I hope you trust in God for healing it will not be an easy road but trust in the Lord.

To the government of Jamaica hanging should not be debated. it should be implemented. Have no pity on those unscrupulous animals.

  18. This is ridiculous! I left Jamaica 10 years ago and I travel back every year for 7 years and now I am afraid to come home. This is BS!!! Where is the damn police, if they weren’t so busy taking buyouts and bribes maybe they could protect the people… May god bless Pia’s family and all Jamaican people I am praying for you…Stay safe
