My name is Joanne McKenzie, sister of the deceased Jason McKenzie. My brother was brutally murdered by police constable Holdness of the Cave Valley Police department.
According to the BSI Investigation, “Information garnered by the CCN are that about 9:00 a.m., a policeman who was on enquires in the Mount Mariah community, saw McKenzie with a ganja cigar and accosted him.” This information is INCORRECT, the officer came to visit HIS GIRLFRIEND, A NEIGHBOUR TO MY FAMILY, WHILE THEY HAD AN ALTERCATION THE NIGHT BEFORE AND THAT MORNING.
THE OFFICE CONFRONTED MY BROTHER AND SAID TO HIM, “I HEAR THAT YOU ARE THE WEED MAN IN THE AREA, WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY TO THAT?”
My brother’s response to the officer, “ YOU ONE NOT GOING TO TAKE ME DOWN FOR ONE SPLIFF” and gave the spliff/ganja cigar to the officer.
The officer went away and came back and attempt to arrest my brother and he walk away from the officer. He walked away and went up to our house on the hill and the officer went up behind him.
Accordingly, “It is reported that McKenzie was released shortly afterwards, when he ran into his garden, drew a machete and attacked the policeman. The policeman reportedly took evasive action and opened fire hitting him.”
My brother was no where in reach of a machete, he had no machete in his hand, nothing at all after he walked away from the officer and went straight up towards the jack fruit tree at the back at the house.
The officer claim that my brother attacked him, which is the officers defense, but you know what my brother is dead and he cannot defend himself.
That’s where I come in, IF I HAVE TO DIE TRYING, THIS OFFICE WILL PAY FOR TAKING MY BROTHERS LIFE FROM HIM AT 23YEARS, JUSTICE WILL BE SERVED AT ONE POINT OR THE OTHER TO THE FULLEST.
If that was the case, that my brother attacked the officer, then why shoot to kill, why not shoot him in the foot, hand, or somewhere that wont severely damaged, INSTEAD HE SHOT HIM IN THE HEAD AT CLOSE RANGE. My brother had several arteries damaged and a burst blood vessel with internal bleeding and if he did survive, he would have been crippled.
After the officer shot Jason, he left him for dead. On the way back to his car, someone said to the officer, “did you shoot Jason?” The officers response was, “ NO I DID NOT, I JUST SCARED HIM”.
Then he got in his car and drove away. Again, the officer claims he attempt to take my brother to the hospital, he did not, he left him there like a dog. “The report further stated that the lawman attempted to take the injured man to hospital but was prevented by an angry mob which converged on the scene.”
The resident that ask the office if he shoot Jason, was the same individual that found Jason laying face down in the dirt with gun shot wound to the head, stop a cab driver and took my brother to the hospital.
My brother was already at the Percy Junior Hospital when the citizens began to protest, “THE ANGRY MOB” WERE NOT AT THE CRIME SEEN, they were at the Junction Intersection protesting after my brother went into Surgery and “POLICE ENFORCEMENT” was not at the scene or at the hospital until my brother was already DEAD.
The BSI needs to conduct an investigation the way that it need to be done and not change the witnesses information to conclude there investigation.
I can assure you that justice will be served, TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW OR OTHERWISE. My brother was only 23yrs of age.
He did not deserve to loose his life so tragic. My family are at the lost for words to describe how we feel, but mark my words. IT AINT OVER TIL THE FAT LADY SINGS. The entire McKenzie and Thomas family will be in Jamaica shortly for funeral arrangements.

my condolences, nothing can make up for your loss, this story is sickening and how dare an officer KILL a young man for having 1 spliff.
If every officer did that -Jamaica would be an empty place.
I believe in an eye for an eye.
I sincerely hope when the whole family go to jamaica they take the best lawyer they can afford with them alongside all media and inform the highest members of authorities involved of all aspects.
What has happened to the officer who did this?has he been suspended pending investigation?
He should be charged for murder and also for leaving the scene not to mention using his weapon in the way he did…….and then he had the cheek to lie about the whole event afterwards.Keep us updated.
Hi Sheryl,
Thanks for the condolences! I agree with your statement “an eye for an eye”, if we don’t get the justice that we deserve then that is definietly what we will be doing. As far as we know the police officer has not been suspended or arrested as yet pending the investigation. So far we know the cost of death, the Autopsy was done yesterday: the bullet went straight through the back of his head through his blood stream into his brain, when they found his body he was already brain dead but his heart was still beating. My mother went to Jamiaca today and only God knows what she is going through. But I can assure you, this is not going to end like this.
Thanks for the coments!!!
Hi Joanne, im really sorry to hear about your loss-…its ironic though, i just heard the news about the Immaculate Conception Head girl and how she was accidently killed by her dad as he was trying to protect her.(she and her mom was being robbed outside of their house…the dad overheard and tried to help by using his firearm…but he slipped and fell and the gun went off) according to reports.
I was just so overwhelmed about it all( even though i did not know her)- and so i can understand how angry you are about your brothers death. Its sad that a justice system that is suppose protect its people fails at doing just that.Thieves and murderes do NOT fear the consequences of their actions, beacaus if they get caught….”if” theyll just go to jail..and well get fat on the very taxpayers that they attack money.
Also its a shame that memebers of the police force are so frequently reported of being allegedly involved in cold blooded murders.Keep on fighting!! dont give up is my encouragement, but if you do “fail”. Remember that God will ultimately give unto each man what he deserves. Cheer up my dear and be safe.
Yes this is very sad. It now seems like the chance of reaching old age or dead by disease is almost nil, but a sure death is by Police and gun men. When my family returned to Jamaica they did not know what they were getting them.
The Police behavior is intolerable. The behavior of the people is desperate and suspicious. Why is it that almost all men shot by the Police was a good man and the community goes out crying for justice? When the bad men kill the community remain quiet. How can crime be solved by silence? How comes know one seems to care when Police are killed.
The Jamaican people has done well for themselves, with very little help from their government, Unfortunately their government fail them. I guess they are waiting to battle crime when the bad men start targeting and killing them and the Tourist.
You see! “They came for me in the morning and you did nothing and in the evening they came for you” And they will!
